From his early life in Utah’s Rocky Mountains, Robert developed a lasting love of nature as viewed from an elevation that produces meadows of wildflowers and expansive views of blue skies and ever-changing clouds. His love of mountains transferred to summer hiking in California’s Sierra Nevada and European Alps. This group of paintings derive from annual travels to the Swiss Alps. Always in his backpack was a sketch pad, pens and pencils so that interesting sights could be documented for future paintings. “Swiss Bench, Wengen” depicts a simple log bench along a hiking trail near Wengen and stimulated several variations on that scene.
