Shaped Constructions

Shaped Constructions

A by-product of World War Two is that Robert developed an interest in flying and, by extension, the design of airplanes. As a youngster he cut airplanes from thin balsa wood and painted models of planes used by the Army Air Force. This became a notable collection of model planes. In the last 10 years of his artistic production, Robert again turned to cutting varied shapes from thin wood as well as from foam board. Here he uses a palette of bright color to dramatize the shapes. The shaped constructions featured here date from about 2010 to 2018.
